… says new vehicles effective replacement for tricycles at night
… hands over vehicles to Bayelsa Transport Company for management
… to increase vehicles in the fleet over the time
Bayelsa Governor, Senator Douye Diri today, inaugurated the prosperity transportation vehicles to boost intra city transport system.
The new transport scheme will help cushion effect of fuel subsidy removal and alleviate the sufferings of Bayelsans as a result of the ban in tricycle operations at night.
At the official launch of the scheme at the DSP Alamieyeseigha Banquet Hall, Onopa, Yenagoa, Gov. Diri charged the operator, the Bayelsa State Transport Company to consider the current realities in the country before fixing their rates on the different routes.
“Today is another historic day that we are all here to launch this transport fleet to alleviate the suffering of our people.
The vehicles for now are intra-state and intra-city. We are not going to do inter-state for now. For those of us who have been crying about our ban of tricycles in the night, this is an effective replacement. The ban on the tricycle in the night continues. Now, we have taxis that will be running within the city of Yenagoa and beyond, we have taxis that will be running the Niger Delta University, Amassoma, the Airport and the Federal University, Otueke.
We like to appreciate all of you who are here today and all Bayelsas for your patience, for you know that your Government has your welfare at heart.
Today has come to mark the end of what we have been suffering under the ban on the tricycle at night and under the new policies to the increase in transportation fares. We believe that, this will be our palliative at the land sector,” Governor Diri stated.
The cabs and buses will not be giving to individuals like the previous government arrangements.
The keys to the vehicles were handed over to the General Manager, Bayelsa Transport Company, (Hon.) Chief Imomotimi Fanama, who was earlier introduced to the event by the Commissioner for Transport, Grace Ekiotenne.
