His Excellency, Senator Douye Diri, Governor of Bayelsa State, has rewarded athletes from the state who medals at the 2020 Edo National Sports Festival with cash prizes.
Announcing this when he received the contingent that placed 3rd in the festival at the Executive Council Chambers, Governor Diri, said all individual gold medalists will receive one million naira each while their coaches get the sum of five hundred thousand naira.
“Bayelsa is a sporting state, I’m very sure that come Asaba 2022 sports festival, Bayelsa should be recognised as number one, therefore, you have every opportunity to break your own records to bring Bayelsa to either number one or number two in the sporting map of Nigeria.
It is in this respect that I announce the following rewards for all of you who have made Bayelsa State proud and have taken Bayelsa State to a greater height in the sporting map of Nigeria. Therefore, all individual gold medalists are hereby rewarded with 1million naira. In addition, the star Performer, Ifie Gagbe is hereby rewarded an additional 1million naira in each of the gold medals.
Team gold medalists are rewarded here with N500,000.00.
Gold winning Coach, coaches/secretaries are rewarded here each with N500,000.00.
Silver medalists, #350,000 each. Team Silver medalist, #250,000.
Silver winning coaches/secretaries, #300,000.
Bronze: Individual bronze medalists, #200,000.Team bronze medalists, #100,000.
Bronze winning coaches/secretaries, #200,000.
To encourage participation, those who participated but were not fortunate, we still need to encourage them and so, non-medal athletes are hereby rewarded with N50,000.00
