… as IGP assures neutrality in discharge of duties
Bayelsa Governor, Senator Douye Diri today received in a courtesy call the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun In Govt. House, Yenagoa.
The visit was to ensure a peaceful gubernatorial election on Saturday.
Governor Diri in his remark, stated that the government is ready to work with security agencies in making sure the election is peaceful.
“We all know that Bayelsa State has a history of political violence, though not exclusive to only Bayelsa, however, we believe that your coming today, will be to address some of these challenges that have faced the people of the state.
The flashpoints of electoral violence in this state are well known to you, and your coming today is to confirm the fact that the police are ready to face the challenges as the leading security agency.
As a government, we are very ready to work with you very closely to ensure that we do not lose any life,” Governor Diri said.
Earlier in his address, the IGP assured of a peaceful election stating that the police and other security agencies have taken a position to be neutral in the election.
