The Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri has been awarded the most prestigious Maritime Industry Merit Award, “Most Friendly MarineTime Governor in Nigeria Award(MIMA) held at Oriental Hotels Lagos.

The Governor was conferred with the award for “Most Friendly Maritime Governor” in recognition of his visionary leadership in the maritime sector.

The organizers highlighted Governor Diri’s pioneering initiative as the first Nigerian state governor to establish a dedicated Ministry of Blue Economy.

While receiving the Award on behalf of the Governor the Secretary to State Government Prof Nimibofa Ayawei noted that the Ministry was established with the strategic vision to strengthen the marine economy and boost economic activities within Bayelsa State.

Prof Ayawei emphasized the critical importance of collaboration between government and the private sector to unlock the vast potential of the marine industry. He noted further that the maritime sector holds immense promise for job creation and increase internally generated revenue (IGR) if properly harnessed.

The SSG Added that Bayelsa State is uniquely positioned as a riverine state with rich deltaic features, more riverine than Rivers State and more deltaic than Delta State and that coupled with the ongoing revolution in infrastructural development across Bayelsa, this provides an unparalleled opportunity for thriving business ventures and sustainable economic growth.

” We remain committed to leveraging our natural endowments and strategic initiatives to transform Bayelsa into a maritime hub that drives prosperity for our people and contributes significantly to Nigeria’s blue economy,” he stressed.
