The Commissioner for Information, Orientation and Strategy, Hon Ayiba Duba commends organisers of the Bayelsa Spelling Bee programme, noting that it promotes effective communication and social polish.
Hon. Duba made the remark when the management of Spelling Bee Bayelsa paid him a courtesy call in his office, Yenagoa.
The Commissioner stated that the importance of speaking fluently and writing proficiently cannot be overemphasised, stating that it should be a routine for all to improve their communication skills.
He encouraged all to write words and sentences in full, rather than using abbreviations, especially in this era of Short Message Services (SMS) and social media, adding that a little error could change the entire objective in a message.
Earlier, the Programme Lead of Spelling Bee Bayelsa, Mrs. Ebidenyefa Tarila-Nikade stated that the first edition of the competition started in 2011. She added that the competition which is done annually is geared towards inspiring primary and secondary school students, as well as promoting quality education.
Mrs. Tarila-Nikade noted that the 8th edition is scheduled to hold on 7th and 8th of October, 2021 at Davem Mini Hub, along Isaac Boro Expressway, Yenagoa.
