Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri today formally received an award of excellence from the University of Port-Harcourt Class of 1980s at Government House, Yenagoa.
The award was presented last weekend in Umuahia, Abia State during the 2025 Reunion of the group.
Governor Diri appreciated the Steering committee members of the Uniport Class of 1980s for the honour and encouraged them to keep the flag flying.
“I thank you profusely for the award. I am truly grateful to have been given this unique honour.



This is a clarion call for us to give back to the University of Port-Harcourt. Because that’s where we cut our teeth.
Let’s look out for one another. Let us feel that love and oneness we have for one another whilst in school.
I am very happy with what you are doing. Keep it up. I encourage us to continue to support our alma mater”, Gov. Diri stated.
In his remark, the leader of the team, Mr. Ben Willy said Governor Diri has made the Uniport 1980s proud and they are very honoured to be associated with him.
Mr. Willy accompanied by three others including Chief Nathan Egba, stated that the great strides and all inclusive government of Governor Diri is the reason for the award, stating that the governor has done very well.
Dignitaries at the award presentation were, member representing Sagbama Constituency Two in the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Hon. Bernard Kenebai, Chief of Staff, Government House, Dr. Peter Akpe, Deputy Chief of Staff, Mr. Irorodamie Komonibo, Commissioner for Information, Orientation and Strategy, Hon. Ebiwou Koku-Obiyai, Security Coordinator, Bayelsa State, Brigadier General Eric Angaye (Rtd.).
