— Advocates for Peaceful and Humble Engagement on Issues of Concern

On Wednesday, 30th April 2025, the Bayelsa State Civil Service Commission held a strategic meeting with the Centre for Disability Rights, Empowerment, and Development (CDRED), Bayelsa State.

The meeting focused on collaboration and the possible inclusion of persons with disabilities in the ongoing employment exercise.

Chairman of the Commission, Mr. Buruboyefe Perekiye John, expressed appreciation to the CDRED delegation for their advocacy towards the inclusion and protection of persons with disabilities. He emphasized that disability is not a death sentence nor a barrier to intellectual performance. According to him, many individuals with disabilities have proven their capabilities across various sectors of society.

Mr. Buruboyefe also advised the delegation to adopt peaceful and respectful methods in their advocacy efforts. He noted that violence and forceful approaches rarely lead to lasting solutions.

Earlier, the spokesperson of the delegation, Mr. God’sgift Fekosufa, Chairman of CDRED Bayelsa State, expressed gratitude to the Commission for granting an audience on short notice. He voiced concern over the marginalization of persons with disabilities and appealed to the Commission to allocate at least five percent (5%) of job opportunities in the ongoing employment process to people with disabilities. According to him, such a move would significantly alleviate the socioeconomic challenges faced by this group in the state.
