In line with Governor Douye Diri’s directive to establish model fish farms in all eight local government areas of the state. The Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy convened a stakeholder meeting to strategize implementation, engaging council chairmen, agricultural officers and artisanal fishing associations.
Honourable Commissioner for Marine and Blue Economy, Dr. Mrs. Faith Izibenua Zibs-Godwin emphasized the state’s commitment to economic diversification and job creation through aquaculture. According to her, the initiative aligns with the Prosperity Government’s Assured Agenda and will be implemented in partnership with local councils and fisheries associations.



Council leaders, led by Chief David Alagoa, Chairman, Nembe Local Government, pledged their support, calling the initiative a timely step toward grassroots empowerment.
Discussions covered project sustainability, monitoring frameworks and the development of a comprehensive database for artisanal fishermen.
Dignitaries in attendance included all eight LGA Chairmen; Special Adviser on Aquaculture, Hon. Nimizuoa Uroupaye; Technical Adviser on Aquaculture, Hon. Godspower Ake; divisional agricultural officers from the LGAs; and representatives of artisanal fisheries associations and cooperatives.
