… harps on independent power supply for state to drive investment
… task agric Commissioner on performance
Today, at the 137th State Executive Council meeting, Bayelsa Governor Douye Diri thanked the people of the State for their peaceful disposition.
While presiding over the session, the Governor also reiterated the need for an independent power supply for the State.
He also charged the Honourable Commissioner for Agriculture, Prof. Sese Beke, to make Bayelsa an agricultural hub.
“We thank our people, the citizens of this State, for the support that they have given to their government and, going forward, the peace that we enjoy in the state.
We have set for ourselves goals for electricity, and as I have said before now, I have charged the Honourable Commissioner in charge of Power, the Managing Director of Bayelsa State Electricity Company, to ensure that we have this investor who will key into our vision of having 24hrs uninterrupted electricity in Bayelsa State.
We cannot be talking about attracting investors while we depend on the national grid that is totally unstable all across the country. That grid cannot give us the kind of investment and investors that we are going out there canvassing for.
The Honourable Commissioner for Agriculture, we have brought in a round peg in a round hole. I have charged you; we want to see how you would be able to galvanise farmers and the state to be food sufficient in areas where we have a comparative advantage, rice, plantain, yam and potatoes; the people of Bayelsa want to see these things being produced here in Bayelsa. So, you have so much to do, we want to see fish sufficiency in Bayelsa”, Governor Diri stated.
