The Bayelsa State Government has announced the dissolution of the parallel electoral committees set up by two opposing factions for the conduct of the Amananaowei Election of Bulou-Orua community in Sagbama Local Government Area of the state.

Consequently, the government has constituted a five-man Electoral Committee under the supervision of the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs to conduct the election within three weeks.

The Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, made the pronouncements at a meeting with the factional leaders and some other stakeholders of Bulou-Orua Community at his office in Government House, Yenagoa, at the weekend.

Senator Ewhrudjakpo in a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Media, Mr Doubara Atasi, directed the dissolved parallel electoral committees to hand over all documents appertaining to the election to the new committee.

He equally directed the government appointed committee to extend the date for the sale of nomination forms by one week to enable other prospective aspirants for the office of Amananaowei to obtain and participate in the process.

The Deputy Governor, who expressed concern that Bulou-Orua community which ought to be a pacesetter for other communities in their clan, urged the people to bury their hatchet and work for the common good of the community.

The new committee to oversee the election has a representative each from the ministries of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs; Justice, and Community Development; as well as the Special Adviser to the Governor on Chieftaincy Affairs, Chief Perekeme Bertola, and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Community Development.

In attendance were the Member representing Sagbama Constituency 1 in the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Hon.Godbless Oyinke; the Chief of Staff Government House, Dr. Peter Akpe, and the Deputy Chief of Staff, Deputy Governor’s Office, Comrade Gowon Toruyouyei.

Others were Commissioner for Culture, Hon.Godspwer Keku, the Local Government Commissioner, Chief Thompson Amule, and their Information counterpart, Hon. Ebiuwou Koku-Obiyai.

A former Head of Service, Bayelsa State, Mr Luka Obiri, the General Manager, Bayelsa Transport Company, Hon Imomotimi Fanama, Acting Amananaowei of Bulou-Orua, Chief Ariye Zidafamor, and the Amaokosiowei (Oldest man) of the community, Chief S.F. Nanakumo, amongst others also attended the meeting.
