…..as DG, New Media thanks Gov. Diri for appointing young Bayelsans

… new Information Commissioner assures of collaboration

The Government of Bayelsa State has held a one-day training and orientation exercise for its New Media aides.

The training with theme: “Deploying New Media Resources for Good Governance and Prosperity” was held at the conference hall of the Harold Dappa Biriye, Golden Tulip, Yenagoa.

In his welcome address, Director-General, New Media to the Governor, Dr. Samuel Kolawole Oredipe, reiterated the importance of training to enhance the effectiveness of the media aides in promoting government’s policies and Programmes.

Dr. Oredipe thanked Senator Douye Diri, governor of Bayelsa State for finding young Bayelsans worthy to be appointed in his media team, while congratulating media aides for the opportunities given them to serve the State.

“I want to congratulate all of you on your appointment, and those of us who were reappointed. We are almost two months in office, and it’s important that we set an agenda for ourselves before we start our work,” Dr. Oredipe stated.

While speaking on the topic: Understanding Journalistic Ethics and Standards as Social Media Practitioners, former Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information, Orientation and Strategy, Mr. Freston Akpor urged media aides to be decent in promoting government’s policies and programmes, and in their engagement with the public.

Also Speaking, Mr. Asieri Odusi, Business Manager of Bayelsa Tech Hub, said that, as media aides, they are representing the interest of the prosperity government, stating that they should be transparent in engaging citizens online.

In her address, the new Commissioner for Information, Orientation and Strategy, Mrs. Ebiuwou Koku Obiyai, encouraged media aides to be patriotic and put Bayelsa first in their activities, stating that she is ready to work together with all media stakeholders in promoting government’s policies and programmes.

The New Media aides have signed up to a new operational code and guidelines to ensure smooth and decent engagement on the various media platforms.
