It was a memorable day at Bayelsa two Premier Secondary Schools, Bishop Dimieri Grammar School (BDGS), Ovom and St. Jude’s Girls Secondary School, Amarata, all in Yenagoa as

Commissioner for Sports Development, Champion (Hon) Daniel Igali, graciously Commissioned and handed over to the Ministry of Education two newly Constructed Standard Basketball Courts for the two Schools respectively.

In his remarks, Daniel Igali noted that St.Jude’s Girls Secondary School, Amarata has continued to rule the Nation in Basketball over time, winning both National and International titles consecutively which inspired His Excellency, Senator Douye Diri, Governor of Bayelsa State to approve for both Schools a Basketball Court each. He said that the gesture was,

“a promise that has turned to reality”.

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Education Dr Gentle Emelah commended the state Governor for the approval but however called for the need to install more solar lights to improve the illumination of the facilities to afford the students more time to train at night and reduce training during school hours.

The Education Commissioner charge the students to be more proactive in the utilisation of the facilities.

“To whom much is given, much they say is expected. Our expectation from these youngsters is for them to do our dear state proud even more than they have done before as we continue to shine both in Academics and Sports”, He concluded.
