In a bid to fulfilling its mandate of mitigating flooding in the state, the Bayelsa State Directorate of Flood and Erosion Control (BYSDFEC) commenced desilting exercise of creeks and canals within the Yenagoa metropolis and its environs. This is to cushion the impact of the anticipated 2024 flood as predicted by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet).

The ongoing desilting which started on 25th July, 2024 has so far covered:

1) ST. PETER/OBELE/GWEGWE & ARIETALIN CANAL

2) AMARATA/ONOPA CANAL

3) NEW COMMISSIONERS QUARTERS/AIRFORCE BASE CANAL, OPOLO

4) KPANSIA GRA/MIKE OKPOKPO STREET/ BAYELSA PALM ROAD

5) EKEKI/OKAKA/ TOWER HOTEL CANAL

6) AGBURA/OTUOKPOTI CANAL

7) AKENFA 4 CANAL

8) AGUDAMA LAW SCHOOL ROAD/ADJOINING CANALs

9) BAYELSA PALM/ASSEMBLY QUARTERS CANAL

10) CEMETERY CULVERT/UPSTREAM AZIKORO CANAL

11) MID STREAM AZIKORO/AGBURA CANAL

12) OKUTUKUTU/AMASSOMA ROAD/ADJOINING CANALS

13) BRASS STREET/NIIT/ ADJOINING CANALS

14) AKENFA 1,2,3 CANAL

15) AIRFORCE BASE/CAMP BURUTAI CANAL
