Truth be told that the current Prosperity Administration of Governor Douye Diri, is making great impacts on the educational sector in Bayelsa State.
In less than 2 years, it has been a rewarding story on series of achievements championed by the Commissioner in charge of that ministry, Dr. Gentle Emelah.
It’s a long list of projects and programmes but let’s serve you with these ones:
•Construction of three Information Communication Technology (ICT) centres at,
1• Bayelsa Medical University (BMU).
2• Bayelsa State College of Health Technology Otuogidi (BYCOTECH).
3• Ijaw National Academy (INA) Kaiama.
•Partnership with Microsoft for the training of 12,000 teachers on ICT.
• Implementation of the teaching and learning of Ijaw languages in all schools across the State.
• Successfull accreditation of all programs offered at the state -owned Niger Delta University (NDU) Amassoma.
• Accreditation of programs of School of Nursing & midwifery and upgrade to a college status.
• Accreditation of programs at the Bayelsa State College of Health Technology Otuogidi.
•Accreditation of programs at the Institute of Tourism and Hospitality IITH and approval for admission through JAMB.
•Accreditation of Ten (10) programs of the Bayelsa Medical University (BMU).
Approval of ten (10) programs of Isaac Jasper Boro College of Education Sagbama to be affiliated to the Niger Delta University (NDU).
Construction of Six new schools within Yenagoa metropolis.
•1 Obogoro Community: Eight classroom storey building with six Offices and 12 toilets (Completed).
•2 Yenezu-epie Community:Eight classroom storey building with six Offices and 12 toilets (Completed).
•3 Igbogene Community:Eight classroom storey building with six Offices and 12 toilets (Completed).•4 Akenfa CommunityEight classroom storey building with six Offices and 12 toilets (Near Completion).
•Biogbolo Community: Eight classroom storey building with six Offices and 12 toilets (Near Completion).
