….COMMISSIONER FOR EDUCATION MEETS WITH CHAIRMEN OF THE 8 LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREAS OF BAYELSA STATE.

The Commissioner for Education Bayelsa State, Hon. Gentle E. Emelah, in a bid to rescue the Educational sector met with the key players of the local governments in the state.

The Commissioner met with the 8 chairmen in his office at the Education House, Yenagoa. He hinted that the meeting was aimed at proffering solutions to the challenges in the educational sector.

He lamented the urgently need to partner the Local Government Councils to ensure a rescue especially of the primary schools which are at the prerogative of the local councils.

Hon Gentle said the Government will visit all the schools in the state to ascertain their various challenges and proffer solutions.

Permanent Secretary Ministry of Education, Mr. Christopher Ehwrujakpo stressed the need to visit the schools so as to know the exact strength of each school and know what to give to them so as not to waste scarce resources.

Speaking on behalf of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria, ALGON, the state Chairman, Hon. Kia Nigeria and Chairman of Southern Ijaw Local Government Area thanked the Commissioner for the meeting. He assured the commitment of the chairmen to ensure an improved Education sector.

He however appealed to the state government to assist the local councils as the wage bill before some of the councils has been challenging to the chairmen.

The meeting was attended by all the chairmen, including the Commissioner for Special duties Eastern, Hon. Preye Brodrick,Chief Okubonanabo Victor, Executive Secretary State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB)

Others are, Mr Christopher Ehwrujakpo, Permanent Secretary Ministry of Education and Mr Dickson Hitler, Permanent Secretary Post Primary schools Board.
