Youths have been charged to shun activities that are inimical to their growth and progress of society.
The Commissioner for Information Orientation and Strategy, Hon. Ayiba Duba made the remark when leadership of Yenagoa Local Government Area Federated Youth Council (YLGAFYC) paid him a courtesy call in his office, Yenagoa.
Hon. Duba stated that in a bid to be responsible leaders in society, youths should indulge in meaningful ventures to be self reliant and employers of labour. The Commissioner frowned at the increase in crime, drug abuse and cultism, adding that youths should abstain from such negative vices that may make them liabilities to their parents and society.
Hon. Duba expressed satisfaction over the activities of YLGAFC by introducing laudable programmes for youths in the LGA, pointing out that their successes would improve the welfare of youths in the area.
Earlier, the president of the YLGAFC, Comrade Ineife Perekosufa stated that they were on a consultation drive with elders and political leaders from Yenagoa Local Government Area, to impact positively on the wellbeing of youths in the LGA.
Comrade Perekosufa said the mandate of the present executive is to change the existing narrative of youths being lazy and crime prone to education friendly youths, adding that they have distributed books and other educational materials to schools in the LGA, as a way of encouraging youths understand the importance of education.
He further noted that thirty-six (36) youths have been earmarked from the seven (7) clans in the LGA on a free skill acquisition programme to make themselves resourceful.
