The Bayelsa State Institute of Entrepreneurship and Vocational Training (IEVT) held its end-of-first-tenure valedictory staff meeting on July 28, 2025, at its Elebele campus. The event, themed “Reflections, Appreciation, and Transition,” brought together staff, departmental heads, and administrators. It celebrated IEVT’s progress since its legal establishment in 2018 and recognized the leadership of the Rector, Dr. Zuobomudor Edwin Agbana, while reaffirming the institution’s commitment to technical and entrepreneurial excellence.
In his address, Dr. Agbana reflected on the Institute’s origin in 2016, formalized in 2018 under Governor Seriake Dickson. He thanked H.E Sen. Douye Diri the executive governor of Bayelsa State for entrusting him with leadership of the Institition as a Rector in July 2021, calling it a fulfillment of his lifelong passion for entrepreneurship and capacity development. He urged staff to stay focused, resist distractions, and commit to global standards. He also shared his vision for a fully digitized, internationally connected IEVT that would empower local talents to thrive globally.

The Acting Registrar, Mr. Douye Ernest Ekperi, described his experience under Dr. Agbana’s leadership as inspiring and professionally enriching. He noted the Rector’s integrity, foresight, and collaborative style, which fostered progress and inclusiveness. Supporting this, Acting Bursar Mr. Lakemfa Friday Perez praised the Rector’s fiscal prudence and people-oriented leadership, urging staff to sustain the collaborative culture and institutional momentum built during his tenure.
In his closing remarks, Acting Deputy Rector Dr. Jacob Poripo lauded Dr. Agbana for his practical leadership and strategic foresight. He emphasized that the Rector’s commitment to innovation, accountability, and digital transformation had laid a strong foundation for future growth. Dr. Poripo encouraged staff to uphold the standards set during Dr. Agbana’s administration, describing the transition not as a farewell but as a continuation of purposeful leadership.
The meeting ended with presentations by Deans and Heads of Departments, highlighting milestones and setting future goals. Discussions centered on accreditation, digital infrastructure, and innovative program delivery. The collective tone was one of optimism and determination to make IEVT a flagship institution for vocational education and entrepreneurship in West Africa. The event affirmed that, with the groundwork laid, IEVT is poised for greater national relevance and global visibility.
