The Bayelsa State Commissioner for Community Development, Hon Alfred Alfred Belmote Watson, has charged peace agents across communities in the Niger Delta to be equipped with extant skills and knowledge towards zero tolerance to violence and ensure community peace building.

Hon Belemote stated this in Yenagoa while declaring open a five-day capacity training workshop for State Peace Architecture delegates from Bayelsa, Rivers and Delta states.

The Peace Advocacy training workshop with the theme: “Common Ground Approach To Advocacy (CGA2A) was facilitated by a Non-governmental Organization dubbed,” Search For Common Grounds” (SFCG), and her funding partners from the “European Union (EU) Sustainable Development Network” (SDN) and the “Foundation for Partnership Initiative” of the Niger Delta (PIND).

The Bayelsa Commissioner who welcomed stakeholders including a former Commissioner for Local Government Affairs under Governor Sim Fubara, Prince Charles ⁰Beke, who also doubles as Chairman of the Rivers State Peace Architecture (SPA) and the Permanent Secretary of Delta State Ministry ⁰of Youths Development, Dr Ngozi Mogbolu; stated that no amount will be too much to sacrifice for sustainable peace in the region.

Hon. Belemote, who is the Chairman of Bayelsa State Peace Architecture also stated that Governor Douye Diri’s ASSURED mantra is working round the clock to sustainable peace in Bayelsa State through the enactment of extant policies on community peace architecture and development using a bottom-top community centered approach.

Hon. Belemote, a former lawmaker who addressed the regional delegates as Peace Architects, reiterates the commitment of Government towards ensuing a people centered leadership model as he called on multinationals, private sector, civil societies and faith based organizations and individuals to join the crusade for peace.

He called on youths to desist from acts capable of triggering violence while suing for sustainable peace in Bayelsa and the Niger Delta at large.

The ongoing Five-Day Regional State Peace Architecture Stakeholders capacity building workshop on Advocacy and mediation tactics was flagged off on Monday 28th July, 2025 is expected to end on Saturday August 1, 2025.

A total of thirty delegates from three states of Bayelsa, Delta and Rivers attended the week long Community Peace Advocacy and Mediation Training Workshop.
