Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has commended the State Surveyor-General, Surv. Geku Tonye Margaret, describing her as a beacon of hope and inspiration for the girl-child across the state.
Governor Diri made this known during a courtesy visit by the Surveyor-General at the Executive Council Chambers, Government House, Yenagoa.

He noted that Surv. Margaret’s remarkable achievement as the first female Surveyor-General of Bayelsa State, in a traditionally male-dominated profession, sends a strong message of possibility and empowerment to young girls in the state.
A major highlight of the visit was the formal presentation of an award of appreciation to His Excellency, Senator Diri. The award, from the Women in Surveying National 20th Anniversary Conference held in Asaba from April 28–30, 2025, was presented by the Surveyor-General and received on the Governor’s behalf by the Honourable Commissioner for Lands and Survey, Hon. (Barr.) Perepuighe Biewari, PhD.
