~Launches drug-free clubs in three schools.
As part of the activities to create public awareness on drugs misuse and addiction by youths in the state, the Bayelsa State Drug Abuse, Addiction Prevention and Rehabilitation Committee (BADAPARC), made a visit to three schools in Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area on Monday, May 12, 2025.
The visit was in continuation of the Committee’s previous tours in the state undertaken weeks earlier, aimed at educating students about the dangers of drug abuse and promoting a safer environment for staff, students and the communities.
BADAPARC’s led by Dr Moses Bariweni was warmly received by staff and students of Sports Academy Asoama, who had an engaging session with the team.

During the interactive session, Dr. Bariweni emphasised the risks associated with drug and substance abuse, warning that, it can impact negatively on academic performance, and urged students to avoid such habits.
To reinforce the importance of a drug-free lifestyle, a school club was established with five student members, under the leadership of Mrs. Naomi E. Emotimighan, Head of Sciences.
While addressing the staff and students at Opokuma South Secondary School, the BADAPARC provided insights on the roles of teachers and students in curbing drug abuse. He urged students to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to their teachers while calling on the teachers to treat the students with compassion and love.
Following an engaging question and answer session, a drug-free club was launched, comprising five student members, with Ms. Deborah Donkemezuo, a teacher at the school, serving as its Coordinator.
At Community Secondary School, Okoloba, Dr Bariweni was warmly received by Mrs. Charity Tarebi, the Vice Principal along with other key members of staff.
While addressing the students, he explained in very clear terms what constitutes drug abuse and highlighted the long term consequences of engaging in substance.
