The Bayelsa State Government Owned University of Africa Toru-Orua has made a remarkable debut in its first National Sports competition, showcasing a five-star performance at the FISU trials in Jos, Plateau State capital. The university’s contingent, comprising four athletes (three male and one female), participated in two events: judo and swimming.

In his remarks, Coach Ada Gwegwe, leader of the delegation, expressed pride and satisfaction with the athletes’ performance. He attributed their success to the support of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Solomon Ebobrah, who approved their participation and provided the necessary funds.

– Anthony Favour: 2 Gold (200M freestyle, 100M freestyle), 1 Silver (50M freestyle)

– Master Bodou Durham Vincent: 1 Gold (60kg category in judo)

– Miss Erefinyo Jennifer: 1 Silver (100m freestyle)

– Master Ebiye Ayibakeditoume: 1 Bronze freestyle(swimming)

The University secured the qualification to represent Nigeria in FISU World University Games in Germany.

thanked and appreciate Prof. Barclay Ayakoroma for initiating the process of registering the University as a member of the NUGA Council in 2023. He emphasized the importance of sports in shaping students’ characters and providing career opportunities.

He noted further that with this outstanding performance, the University is poised to make stronger impression at the national level (NUGA) and the World University Games.

The university’s participation in these events will likely raise its profile and showcase its commitment to sports development, he stressed.
