Acting Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, has described former cabinet member of the State Executive Council and senior lawyer, late Mr Fitzgerald Olorogun, as a worthy citizen who contributed meaningfully to the development of Bayelsa in particular and Nigeria at large.
Senator Ewhrudjakpo, said this on Friday during a Special Valedictory Session in honour of the former Commissioner for Conflict Resolution and Employment Generation at the Exco Chambers in Government House, Yenagoa.
He said the impactful life the deceased lived would be felt for a long time not only by his immediate family, friends and the state but also across various organizations and professions, including the legal profession in the country.
According to him, the late Olorogun was diligent as a lawyer, forthright as a father, disciplined and compassionate as a Christian, stressing that one’s life can make more meaning when it is invested in others and and not in one’s self alone.
Senator Ewhrudjakpo said testimonies about the deceased from great personalities within and outside the state including the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace, Mr. Festus Keyamo, speak to the fact that Olorogun lived a life worthy of emulation.
While conveying the condolences of the government and people of the state to the Olorogun family, he urged them to work hard to accomplish more than their late son, father and brother.
His words “The good scents of our brother and father’s deeds are not just limited to Bayelsa here, they are being perceived and felt in other states of the federation.
“Our tribesman invested in others, not just limited to the Bayelsa West, but across the length and breadth of this country and even outside the shores of Nigeria.
“For our brother who is now lying here was diligent as a lawyer, forthright as a father. He was a man who was disciplined as a human being and compassionate as a Christian.
Some of the deceased’s colleagues who paid tributes during the session including the former Commissioner for Special Duties, Governor’s Office, Mr Kesiye Frank-Oputu, described him as a fine gentleman who made key contributions during council meetings.
In their separate tributes, the Commissioner for Sports Development, Mr. Daniel Igali and Special Adviser to the Governor on Political Matters, High Chief Collins Cocodia, acknowledged the humility, dedication, vision and principled nature of the departed legal practitioner.
It will be recalled that the departed Ekeremor-born senior lawyer served Bayelsa State in different capacities, including Special Adviser on Legal Education and as Commissioner for Conflict Resolution and Employment Generation.
