Bayelsa Governor, Senator Douye Diri today joined the Mayor of Yenagoa, Mr. Nimizuoa Uroupaye, to inaugurate a 25-room office space and a one storey administrative block at the Yenagoa Council Secretariat, Ovom.
Speaking at the inauguration, Governor Diri said he was excited that Council Areas that once could not pay salaries were not only completing projects but have savings in their bank accounts.
The Governor stated that the new order in the Local Government management made it possible for every Council to set aside five million naira monthly to offset outstanding payments.
He also assured the outgoing Chairmen and Councillors of the payment of their severance allowances and advised them not to make any employment at this zero hour.
“And now our Chairmen and Councillors are about to exit, you know we used to have backlogs of severance allowances but now this group of Chairmen and Councillors that are exiting, in Yenagoa Local Government Area, there is money already made available for their severance allowance payment.
Most Local Government Councils have succeeded in completing projects in various Wards.”
In attendance were, the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, the Speaker of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Rt.Hon Abraham Ingobere, represented by the Leader of the House, Rt.Hon. Monday Edwin Bubou Obolo, State Executive Council members and other top Government functionaries.
