In a bid to fulfilling its mandate of mitigating flooding in the state, the Bayelsa State Directorate of Flood and Erosion Control (BYSDFEC) commenced desilting exercise of creeks and canals within the Yenagoa metropolis and its environs. This is to cushion the impact of the anticipated 2024 flood as predicted by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet).
The ongoing desilting which started on 25th July, 2024 has so far covered:
